As vacuum heat treating specialists, Solar Atmospheres can help determine the right process and cycle to meet or exceed your metallurgical requirements. Through precise temperature and environmental controls metal parts attain their required specifications with minimal distortion and bright, scale-free results.
Solar’s extensive and flexible capability includes over 40 vacuum furnaces ranging from lab size to the world’s largest commercial vacuum furnace (36 feet, 100,000 lb. capacity). One of the largest providers of vacuum heat treating services in the nation, Solar provides unique capabilities, consistent quality and responsive service for the Metal Processing Advantage.
Vacuum brazing, one of the strongest bonding methods available for metal joining, results in a bright, clean assembly. Machined, cast, formed, stamped and tubing are bonded with a hermetic seal at the joint area. Because parts are processed in vacuum (fluxless brazing) there is no need for post braze cleaning. Vacuum brazing is especially useful when minimal distortion is important for small or larger assemblies.
Solar Atmospheres offers vacuum carburizing for optimum case hardening. The benefits are wear resistant part surfaces, case depth uniformity, minimal distortion and bright, clean parts. Vacuum carburizing prevents microstructure intergranular oxidation (IGO) and decarburization. The avoidance of IGO privides high integrity for the case.
Vacuum nitriding provides excellent surface hardening and improves metallurgical characteristics to extend part wear life. In fact, depending on the alloy processed, Solar’s vacuum nitriding increases the surface hardness by 40% – 70%! To preserve part specifications, vacuum nitriding’s controlled low temperature (1050°F) minimizes any inherent part distortion. Metallurgically, the surface hardness depth (.001- .020) preserves the core strength and durability while improved fatigue resistance and anti-galling properties for ...
